Priesthood, Sunday School, and Sacrament as usual. Good mtgs. Gaineys and Ongemachs were all there. HEY! Saw Sister McDowell. She is really in a mess. Came home and ate. Now THE BED!

Oct 26, 64

D DAY! HEY! Didn’t do anything exciting. Wrote letters and goofed off all day. Went out and had a good visit with the Gaineys. I talked with Bro. Gainey and he has made up his mind to live the W. of W. He is a real fine man. Sure love ‘em. Had a fireside this evening. Rode with the Ongemachs to it. They’re also sharp people. The Gaineys, Sue and Sister Gainey were there.

Worked in the office all day. Sister Kerner crashed. Hard to meet with. Had the Gaineys over for dinner. They really enjoyed [it]. Then Mike and Sue went on a hay ride with the M.I.A. and we drove Gainey’s home. Had a real good talk with Bro. Gainey again. He confided in me and told me all the trouble they’ve had. And how he wanted to get things straightened up and live a good life.

Worked in the office. Went out in the afternoon and visited a few people. Came back and worked some more in the office. Gave the Ongemachs the 6^th and they’re all ready for Saturday. Then we went over to Gainey’s and had barbequed chicken and gave them the 5^th. Sue promised to live the W. of W. and Bro. Gainey is now living it. They have really changed and are the greatest people. As a joke they gave us an Easter Basket chucked full of liquor, cigs, tea, coffee. Man, what a laugh. They’re just great. They’re all ready for Sat. too. I’m sure thankful for these people and the way the Lord has blessed us so much. It really strengthens your testimony and I’m just ever so grateful to be a Mormon and it’s even greater to be a Mormon Elder and missionary serving here now. It’s just great and I sure love it.

Worked in the office. Had a D mtg this morning. Real good. I slept some this afternoon and then worked more in the office. Gave the Gaineys the 6^th. Bro Gainey and Sue gave their 1^st prayers. The Spirit was real strong and just wonderful. Saw Bro. Ongemach. Everything is just great.

Today has been one of the greatest days of my mission. First off the Lord blessed us with 2 families that were baptized, the Gaineys and Ongemachs. This was truly a paid day. Seven wonderful people were baptized. Elder V Chris baptized 3 and I baptized Ken Ongemach, Did Gainey, Beth, and Mike Gainey. This really made us happy and we were really thankful.

Just before the baptismal service Pres. Winder came and told me he was sending me to Puerto Rico. Boy was I ever surprised. I was in shock for hours. It’s really quite an honor. I will be laboring with Elder R. S. Chris again. 3^rd time is the charm I guess. I will be leaving next Thurs. Man what a surprise. I’m real grateful for this opportunity tough. It’s great.

We spent the evening with Gaineys and then we went to Ongemachs for a while. Then home, to bed to get some rest. I’m beat.

We went to Tampa Stake Conference this morning. We only stayed for one session and then drove back to Orlando’s fast meeting. Sue Gainey bore her testimony real good. Then we went to Morrison’s and ate and then we attended the reorganized church. It was very dead. Went out and saw Rikards and then home. I got to see all the Tampa folks.

Nov. 2, 1964

No D Day today, change for tomorrow. Typed transfers all day and made arrangements to get things in order to leave. Ate lunch with Gaineys. Worked in the office all day.

Nov 3, 1964

D day. Didn’t do much. Made preparations to leave. Attended M.I.A. and went out to Gaineys this evening. Went with Elder Tilford out to see some people in Oveido. Look good. Sister Wilkens referred them.

Nov 4, 1964

Well it’s getting close and I’m getting scared. Worked in the office. Showed Elder Peterson the job and what to do. Ate with Gaineys and then we went over to Ongemachs for a while. Ran around with out heads cut off. New missionaries and all.

Nov 5, 64

Well this has really been a day and a half. The morning was maddening. Everything went wrong. I missed my first flight so I had to get rerouted. So I went through Tampa.

Called JoAnn and had a nice talk and also Sister Wynns. It was a real thrill to fly over the ocean. It was real beautiful. I arrived in San Juan at 9:30 this time. Elder Chris was shocked to see me. He didn’t know I was coming. I’m real tired so adios.

We went over to Ramey today, 80 miles from here. Saw some members, real good people. The man we went to see is out to lunch. X him. Very tired.

Looked up referrals and just regular work. Gave Bro Tirada the 1^st. he is good but his kids look colored. Problems.

Went to church. I spoke there. They have a small branch here and it’s rather good. I sure love it. Ate at the Robinsons and then we came home. Muy tired.

D Day. Cleaned apt all morning, we even slept in until 8:30. In the afternoon we went to the show Robin and the 7 Hoods. It was pretty good. Gave Sis Brillon and Did Arroya the 1^st. Sis Brillon looks good but Sis Arroya not so hot.

We have just been looking up World’s Fair referrals almost all the time. Have given a couple disc. each night. Went to M.I.A. on Tues. Met a real good family Thurs night. Everything is great.

Looked up referrals. Gave Davie the 3^rd and 4^th. He’s coming real good. Gave Sis Brillon the 2^nd. Seems good. Still have a question about her being colored. She we didn’t think is but the father. Met another good lady, Sis Merraro. Things are looking good. Went by Robinson’s. Elder Chris wants me to say how neat he is. Elder Chris is a real sharp fellow. His head just got as big as a watermelon. Ha! Ha!

Gave Bro and Sis Trigo the 1^st. Pretty fair. She is rather good. Looked up some referrals, then gave Davie Rodriguez the 5^th. He is good and will be baptized next Mon. Ate ate the Robinson’s. Then we gave Peppie and his father the 1^st. Peppi is real good. Things are looking good.

Well, I have been real sick with the Puerto Rican Monga. Have I ever been sick. On Monday the 23^rd Elder Chris baptized Davie Rodriquez. I didn’t even go to the service. So we haven’t accomplished much. In fact nothing all week. Gave Sis Brillon the 4^th on Wed. Goal.

Spent the day with the Russells. Had a wonderful dinner. Then a family program in the evening. Was a real nice Thanksgiving.

Worked all day, getting things going again. We are going to baptize Danny Rodriguez and possibly Sis Laura Brillon. Looked up referrals and all.

Gave Danny the 5^th and 6^th today and reviewed with him. Also we gave his mom the first and met a couple more good people.

Went to Roosevelt Rds this morning. Attended all their mtgs. Met the Wards. Referral from Bro. Mitchell. Look real good. Stopped in Ceiba on the way home and to my surprise the people we were going to see were Larry Garbis and wife. What a shock. Then we returned to San Juan for a fireside and then we gave Sister Brillon the 5^th and 6^th. She is to be baptized tomorrow. Been a good day and real enjoyable. Spoke in Sac. Mtg. The ride was real beautiful.

Went to El Merro castle and to the beach sight seeing. Real enjoyable. Danny Rodriguez and Sister Laura Brillon were baptized tonight. Real different and wonderful experience baptized in the ocean. I performed the baptisms. Been a great day and the Lord has blessed us. Adios.

Dec 1 to Dec 10

We have been teaching some good people. Sister Rodriguez and Popo R the past while. They’ll be baptized Mon the 14^th.

We went to Ramey on the 3^rd and taught the Priesthood class that evening. Then returned the 4^th. Stayed with the Hills.

On the 6^th went to Roosevelt Rds again. Gave Wards the 1^st. A family referred by the Mitchells. They look good. Attended their mtgs.

The 7^th we saw Fate is the Hunter. Pretty good.

Been teaching and about the same, looking up referrals etc.

The 10^th we gave the Wards the 2^nd and ate dinner with them and the Mitchells. Pretty good.

Received Xmas goodies from Jeanette on the 8^th. All sorts of goodies.

Dec 11, 64 to Dec 18, 64

We have been doing about the same W.F.R. and all. The Wards are looking great. Played them the J.S. Profile of a Prophet on the 13^th. Gave Sis Ward some real good for thought. Gave them the 3^rd on the 16^th and they said they’d live the Word of Wisdom. Sister Ward seems much better. He’s great.

On the 13^th E.C. and I spoke in Sacrament Mtg. at San Juan branch. Was supposed to baptize Sis. Rodriguez but she became ill so we will next Monday.

E.C. has and is horrible, her has and is real angry. He thinks he is a Big Neat thing but he’s not! He is reading this, that’s why the slams. He really isn’t that bad. (He’s worse). Ha! Ha!

On Monday, 14^th, we saw Woman of Staw and The Victors (it was crummy).

Same going ons. Sun. the 20 gave Wards the 4^th. Looking good. Mon. we saw The 3^rd Secret. Been looking up referrals. On Wed 23 went to Roosevelt Rds to their branch Xmas party. Real good. The Wards were there. About it.

Saw a few people this morning. Ate at Fothinghams and then headed for Rosy to give the Wards the 5^th. They’re doing fine. Bro. Ward needs to make up his mind to live W. of W. Ate dinner with them and met their daughter. Then we stopped at Johnson’s and Mitchell’s for a minute and then came home.

Christmas Day, 1964, Puerto Rico. What a Christmas. Real warm. Visited Butlers, then went to Pres. and Sister Greenlands for dinner and then we played Seck. Then E. Chris and I went to the show Kiss Me Stupid. Had a good day.

Battled traffic looking up W.F.R. most of the morning. Ate lunch at Sister James’. Looked up more W.F.R. Called Wards. We went or E.V. took me to see Goodbye Charlie. Real good. Oh, I’m 21. Ha! Ha! What a way to spend New Year’s Eve.

Jan 1, 1965 to the 12^th

The weekends of the 3 and 10 we spend at Ramey Br. On the 12^th E.C. and I both spoke in Sac. Mtg. we have some potential people to teach there. We are going again this week. We have seen that Wards a couple times. They seem to be coming along better. Just need to decide when. Have picked up some people here in San Juan. We stayed with the Adams at Ramey. He is quite a card. That’s it.

Worked on mailers most all the day. Gave Sigeriary the 1^st. Also Hilda Garcia. Things are looking somewhat better.

Went to Ramey this morning. Gave Ana the 2^nd. Seems pretty good. We stayed with Adams and they took us to the club to eat. Visited some other people and talked with them.

Met with Pres. Winder at 7:00 to 11:00. Then we ate lunch with them.

Then we went to Priesthood mtg. Pres Winder and his Dad spoke. Also Bro Adams and Bro Hill. Was a real good mtg.

Then they had the youth testimony mtg. and the was real good also.

Then we went out to Becky 7 and ate. That was good also. Then we went to the dance and that wasn’t so good. I couldn’t dance.

Cleaned, washed, etc. Went to see Topkapi in the afternoon. Had meeting with some people.

Gave Sis Cruz the 2^nd. Fairly good. Ate lunch with Pres. Winder and the gang at the El Convento (a nunnery turned into a rest.) Was real good. Then went and looked up referral. Then we took P. W. to the airport and saw them off. Gave Butlers the 6^th. John is ready for baptism now. Went to M.I.A. and look up more referrals.

Made arrangements to send mailers and cleaned out pamphlets and all.

Sis. Baker crashed. Gave Tuler the 3^rd. He is looking real good.

Gave Frank the 5^th. He has really come out of it and is sure doing good now.

Went to Ramey this afternoon. Stayed overnight with the Hills. Ana couldn’t meet with us.

Attended Sunday at Rosy Rds. Talked with the Wards. They are to be baptized this week. Came back and went to San Juan services.

Feb 1, 1965

We put out car in the garage. We to the show Erik the Conqueror. I baptized John Butler this evening. E.C. confirmed him. Then we walked to out app and it crashed. So we went to a show The Young Lovers. It was pretty good. We’ve been reading around some on the crazy buses. Man, what a riot. You never can get a seat and the aisles are jammed.

Feb 2, 1965

Out car is still being repaired so we worked on mailers until in the afternoon. Then we went to give Avon the 2^nd, one of Eddie V.’s cousins. She is read good. Then we tramped around on the buses getting lost and all. Fun, fun. Went to M.I.A. About it. I’m beat from walking.

Feb 3, 1965

Good news. Out car still isn’t ready. Worked on mailers. Ortedo crashed. Gave Avon the 3^rd. She is looking real good. One of Eddie V.’s cousins. We rode the bus again and walked. Man, what a life.

Spent the whole morning in court. Didn’t accomplish a thing… at court that is. Went to Rosy in the evening and that was a fizzle. They didn’t get out message we were coming. Oh well. Grin and bear it.

Went to Ramey and taught Ana. Gave her the 4^th and showed her the film. She isn’t really too golden. Visited with Hills and all.

Feb 7, 1965

Drove from Ramey to Rio Piedras early this morning, changed clothes and cleaned up and went on Rosy Rds. Attended their mtgs. Then they had a farewell get together for Johnsons. Talked with Wards. They have sorta cooled off. Gave a friend of Bro. McPhie’s the 1^st, Tony Smith, real good. Went up to the tower where Larry Garbis works and that was rather interesting. Drove back to Rio Peidras and I’m beat. Pooped.

May 26- June 4

Well I’ve just been loafing around the mission home doing odds and ends the past few days. On the 30^th Pres Winder informed me I would be staying here at the mission home as the new communication sec. Man was I ever surprised. On Monday D Day we went to Cyprus Gardens again. Well Tues. morning I started my new assignment. Man what a challenge this is going to be. Gave the (June 3) Rickard children the 5^th and 6^th. Their father is holding them back. Mother was baptized a couple weeks ago. Also I worked all evening with E. Lovell. Visited members and got some referrals.

June 5-10

Well nothing real exciting has happened, about the same. I’m really enjoying it here at the home. Good food and lots of T.L.C. I sure like my new companion, E. Lovell. He goes home in July. I wonder who’ll be next. Stowe and Chris are two of the biggest jokes I’ve ever seen.

June 11-19

Nothing real exciting has happened the past few days. Although we’ve met some real good people and gave a couple disc. We gave the 1^st to Sis Broadway on Tues. Real humble. Gave Sis Clay and Don Cregg the first tonight. Real good people.

I’m really enjoying it here at the home. Some new missionaries came in on Tues. night. We had a D meeting Wed. evening. Pres. and Sis Winder were both there. Also a testimony meeting. Real inspirational. Pres Jolley went home Thurs.

Got a goodie package from Jeanette. Candy, new tie, and a real sharp tie clip with initial R on it. She is real great.

June 20 – July 1^st

Well I’m still here. This book isn’t up to date. About the same things happen every day. On the 29^th we had a real tremendous missionary conference. Pres. and Sister Richards were here and Pres. Richards interviewed me. A real tremendous conference at (illegible). On the, oh well I’ll keep the (illegible), look up now or Jeanette will be done by (illegible).

July 1

Work in Office, end of month and quarter so there’s a pile of work. Another new group of Elders came in. Got them settled. Started working on Harvester[1].

July 2

Work on Harvester and got my clerk pretty well all caught up so I can work on Harvester and historicals. Gave Tad Graham the 1^st. Real receptive and interested. Mother came at tend and said she didn’t want us to come again. We’ll do it anyway. Salon really had her dry the (illegible). She’ll come around. Came home and worked on Harvester more.

July 3

What a hectic day. Really worked on the harvester hard. Got 8-9 pages finished. Only 4 to go. Went out to the Richards this afternoon. Had a wedding at 8:00 this evening and a baptismal service at 9:00. Real exciting. Bro Quinn was baptized by Pres Winder. They are spending the night. Also the Cars are here spending a night or two. It’s been a GREAT DAY and I’m pooped. So long.

July 4-10

Well I’ve been slothful again and I haven’t written in this book. Everything is much the same. A big mess and shuffle is going. Elder Coombs and Lowell left. (On the 17th the Rikard children finally made up their minds to be baptized! Hey! They are really enthused.) I’ve been working on the historicals. Man what a job. Also the Harvester is on it’s way.

July 11

I hadn’t been feeling so hot. I went to the Dr. and oh happy day I got slumped in the hospital. That’s this afternoon. Oh well. Grin and bear it.

July 12

Sunday, got jabbed this morning bright and early. Same old mary go round it looks like. The Elders same in to see me.

July 13

I’m still getting jabbed. Twice this morning. Nothing new.

July 14, 64

Well, three times I’ve been jabbed today. Man my poor arms. I get out tomorrow providing.

July 15

Well I got out, oh happy day. Worked in the office [in] the afternoon. Gave Boudreaus the 5^th this evening. They’re sliding along. He has completely dropped out.

July 16

Worked in the Office. I’m still plugging away on the historicals. Man what a mess and a big fat job. Went to a lecture on what is a Mormon. Pres Munns spoke and the filmstrip was shown. Pretty good.

July 17

Same old stuff. More office work. This evening we looked up some referrals.

July 18

Had a staff meeting this morning. Discussed problems and ways of improving missionary work here in the Home. Giving us the kick in the pants we need. Also we are going to start working out on Sat afternoons. We started today. Debbie set her date to be baptized next Saturday. Hey! Gave the Castleberrys the 1^st. Real good people, awfully involved in Methodist church. Fam was a World’s Fair referral. Very fine.

July 19

Sunday going to meeting. Attended all church mtgs. Went to a fireside. I stayed in and telephone traced. Set up one app.

July 20

Same garbage. Historicals mail etc. busy all day Gave the Stevensons the 1^st. This fine couple is just real tremendous. They’ll be good Mormons. Set up a group mtg. with Roanne Wilkins on Fri. I’m popped. Night!

July 21-26

I’m still being slothful. Everything is about the same. Gave the Stevensons the 2^nd on Tuesday. Real good. Gave them 3^rd on Thurs. Also went to Dr. Gotta have a phono cartygraph[2] done next Monday. The three Rikards were baptized Fri evening by Pres. Munns. I confirmed Glena Sue. E Chris Debbie and Pres Munns Terry. Sure sweet. Church on Sunday. Stevensons weren’t there.

July 22- August 7

Well I’ve done it again. Life I guess. Found out I have a phuematic heat. Always a nice thing to have. The Stevensons are having marital problems. He ask[ed] us not to come back. She has now decided she is interested. What a mess.

Can’t remember what’s been going on. Nothing real exciting. Got the harvester all done, anyway ready for press. I’m pretty much caught up on my work now. I can get ahead. Hey! Amen! Night.

Finished Harvester. Worked on Pres Winders books. Did regular office work. Saw a couple people. Came home so E. Christ could work on talk. Picked up new missionaries. Elders Naider and Miller. That’s it. E.S. is ticked off as usual.

Church mtgs. Slept most of the afternoon. Had a real good fireside this evening at the mission home. Real good day. Although I don’t really feel so hot. Life.

Same D Day garbage. Met a real good couple this evening, the Walls (world’s fair).

Had a staff mtg. Took new miss to the bus. Worked in the office in the morning and very little in the afternoon. Went to intereciew a lady. Talk[ed] with Pres. Winder about a few problems.

Went to Tampa’s Stake Conference. Real wonderful. The best I’ve been to in Tampa. Saw all the Gang. Sis Tucker – Jones. Bro and Sis Dickerson. Had a real nice visit. Elder Gordon B Hinckley was here to reorganize the Stake. Pres White released. Pres Pattend put in. Saw E. Burt and talk[ed] to him. He has sure changes. Seems much better. I pray so.

Went this evening and saw Sister Walls. And had (illegible). She and her husband all (illegible) to finish the disc. They’ll be baptized. I’m real tired. Plain pooped. So Bye.

As usual I’ve been slothful again. Some day I’ll repent and start writing in this every night. Bro Walls crashed everything on Monday. No dice. We are actively teaching NO ONE! I have all my work up to date. So that’s good for a change. It’s Harvester time again. I slept all afternoon. Went on a wild good chase this evening. We were supposed to take some girls from camp to their banquet and back. Well we went clear up there and they didn’t need us. They were sort a snotty.

Nothing exciting. Worked in the office most all day. Went down and got a new suit. Pick it up Tuesday. Met the Cumberlands. Seem interested.

Church as usual. I slept most of the afternoon. Was real tired. Went out that evening and saw some good people.

Some old d day. Played tennis. Sort fun. Visited new move-ins. Saw a few people.

Worked in Office. Got new suit. Gave Cumberlands the 1^st, anyway her. He got called on a job. Have return app for Thurs. She is real good.

Aug 26

New Elders came in last night. Work[ed] in office. Had a fireside that evening. A hurricane is on it’s way. Slim chance of hitting Orlando. Real stormy though.

Aug 27

Had a real good missionary conference. Still real stormy. Hurricane hit Miami last night. One set of Elders got their roof blown off. Another set had a tree pay them a visit. Real exciting. It’s moving up the coast and sorta coming west. The Wind is really blowing. We didn’t go out this evening at all. Saw some move-ins (illegible) and ate popcorn and listen[ed] to reports about the hurricane. In the event it hits here in Orlando it will be here around 12:00 or so. I’m getting some sleep. (illegible) sleep through it I suppose.

Aug 27 –Sept 6

Well nothing real exciting has happened. Work as usual. Harvester time again. I’m going to repent someday and write in this book every night.

Sept 6 -23

Well I’ve really gone a while this time. I can’t remember too much. On the 16^th we went to Stake Conference in Jacksonville. Marion Romney was there. Also some other 2 can’t remember. Bro Yuary, Sis Keggington and one other. Anyway it was real great. The hurricane really hit hard there. A lot of damage. Came home down the beach and that was real interesting. Had a good time. Elder R. Christensen left on the 19^th for Puerto Rico and E. Vic Chris took his place.

We are teaching a real fine, smart Japanese fellow. 11 yrs and is really a whiz – and how smart.

On the19th I spoke in Sacrament at the Orlando 1^st ward. Also Elder Van Smith (TE) and two young (illegible). I spoke on Religion in the home. I thought it was a good mtg.

Office work has been going on as usual. I’m all caught up and not much doing. Oh well. It’s the end of the quarter and month so I’ll have plenty.

Sept 24, 64

Work[ed] in the office all morning. Gave Jim Biggs the 1^st. Real good. He is from Illinois and is here in the service. Went with Pres. Brown to take care of some business. Gave Dick McIntosh the 4^th. He is quite a fellow, real smart. Went to investigator fireside. Boyd Johnson, a returned missionary from Fla spoke. He served here on his mission. Real good fireside and well-attended. Work[ed] with Elder Stowe this evening.

Sept 25, 64

Office work all morning and afternoon. Finished comparative and got it in the mail. Then I caught Pres. Winders books up to date on record of Baptisms by the missionaries. Went with Elder Monson to greyhound to ship some things. Ate and went to the baptismal service. I baptized Sis Doris Whitestone real (the sister’s contact) real fine lady! Then we went and visited the Frunsch (NIA) family and Bor and Sis W. Dinedale (M.) They gave us a referral. Real good members. Came home and it’s bed time. Hey!

Sept 25, 64 – Oct 10

Well I’ve done it again. I, as usual, can’t remember everything. We baptizes Jim Biggs with the Lord’s help today. We met him two weeks ago today. Real tremendous person. Really a true convert. Elder V.P Christensen baptized and Biship LeVar confirmed. I played the piano. Ha! Ha! Elder Berry, a T.E. spoke. It’s been a real thrill to teach him.

We met the McDowells and they look pretty good. Seem like good people. I pray they accept the gospel. Also some other good people we are teaching. Things are looking good.

I’m going to Bradenton in the morning to work for a bouple weeks and replace Elder Adamson who is been operated on. I’ll be working with Elder George, a new man of only 2 weeks. Sounds like fun. I will get to fly. Hey.

Well, I flew to Bradenton this morning after attending priesthood mtg in Orlando. Elder George and Adamson met me. I called Sis Wynns and Tucker while I was in Tampa. We visited a couple families and then took Elders Adamson to the hospital. Then we more or less mapped out what we were going to do. Went to Sacrament mtg. And then to the hospital and administered to Elder Adamson. Came home and retired.

D-Day and what a drag this day has been. Rode around all day. Went to the beaches. Very dull day. Gave Mr. Tubeville the 1^st. Seems pretty good. The Markhams crashed and the Popes. Mr. Pope was out of town. That’s it.

Looked up new move-ins most of the day. This is a real challenge. Went to Hills and they crashed. Went to M.I.A.

New move-ins again. Man was a miss. Set up a couple mtgs. Hills crashed again. Guess we’ll drop ‘em. Saw and talk[ed] to Bro. (Illegible). His family was baptized a while back. He is rather stubborn.

This has really been a day of all days. What a wild goose chase we went on. Looked up new move-ins. Gover, Tubeville, and Wallace all grashed this evening. Man what a day. I’m pooped and disgusted.

This day has been about the same. Not much accomplished. Had a fireside this evening. It’s been a long day.

Today has looked good. We visited with two inactive members and they both said they will be coming to church. We are going to teach the one, the Williams, their one daughter isn’t a member. Things are looking better. Hey. This has been a very long, trying week. I’m (illegible). Gave Govers and Hornsby the 1^st. Sort hard hearted this is the Govers. Hornsby were fair. I’m beat.

D-Day today. We didn’t do much. Slept in and was just plain lazy. Laundy, etc. visited the Raders this evening. Sure are wonderful people. Also visited Bro. Fred Ridgewell, the stubborn mule. He’ll be baptized soon. family are members. Had a good talk with him. Set up a meeting with Wallers. Look good. Also Hunters. Came home and pack[ed]. I’m going to Orlando, W.P. in the morning.

Today started out wrong. This has really been a day and a half. I came back to W.P. today. I’m real beat. I feel real louse. I have acold. Then my luggage has been lost and this is real great. We went to M.I.A. and took the Gainys/ Then gave Sister Kenier the 4^th. Things look good in this area.

I got my hair cute and spent the morning getting things organized and going again. Work[ed] in the office all day. Gave the Gaineys the 3^rd. Good people. Saw Ongemanch. They’re real sharp.

Worked on historicals all, most of the day. Things are getting in shape again. Gave Ongemach the 4^th. Real sharp. Visited some other people.

Today has been a real jolly day. Gave Gaineys the 1^st again cause Sue and Beth and Mike weren’t there. Saw Ongemach and they came to a baptismal and are planning for Sat to be baptized. Gave them the 5^th. Sharp! Sharp! (Illegible) hasn’t found my luggage. Washing clothes out every night is nonsense and how. Oh well. Life. Whoops. Found my clothes finally. Hey!

Tracted most all day again. Went over to Sis Jones and Tucker and gave them the 1^st for some good practice for someone. Ha! Ha! Had a real good disc.

Gave Gary Tucker the 1^st and here is a Mormon. He is real good. Gave Hydes the 2^nd. Good people. Tracted this afternoon. Briggs and Sudberry came over and ate. Then we tracted and I went with Briggs. Hey one more. Watch[ed] some (illegible) afterwards.

Church again all day, talked to a Church of Christ family and they chopped us all up. Oh well. Someone is out to lunch. Went to Sis Ward for dinner. Had a disc. with Longfords but we decided it best to come back when they were all there. Went over to Wynns for a while. E. Burt is out. Sure glad it’s D Day tomorrow. Hey!

We went with E. Sudberry and Briggs to Cyprus Gardens. Had a real good and enjoyable time. We came back to Tampa and ate at Morrisons. Boy was I ever stuffed. That evening I felt rotten and it really got me. Came home and went to bed early.

Well I’ve been sick most all week. We haven’t really accomplished much at all. E. Burt went out a couple times but I stayed home in bed most of the time.

May 1, 64

Got up and went to Conference this morning. Pres. Winder interviewed us and I told him about being sick and all so he call[ed] Dr. Raines. Well I went to see the Dr that afternoon and he put me in the hospital the next day. Oh great. Went and told everyone goodbye.

May 2-13

Well I went to the hos for the 1^st time in my life. They ran ever test I can think of. Finally on Thurs they decided that I’ve had rheumatic fever and not known it and that it had damaged my ticker. Wow what a shock. Dr said I may be going home. That wasn’t too pleasant. I just rested. It started to get boring. Met Janice (illegible) and she is going to learn about church. In fact we gave her the 1^st. I gave half. Also the Elders are teaching Pat Canwell. Well finally Tuesday the 12^th Pres. Winder came and got me and I went to Winder Park until Thurs and then I went to Miami to be examined further.

May 14

I flew to Miami this morning and (illegible) Jackson Memorial Hospital. Oh happy day. From the 14^th to the 20^th I was there. Finally they came to the conclusion I had a virus and an enlarged spleen caused from the virus. Anyway, Dr wants me to take it easy so back to Winter Park again.

I got out of hos and rode the darn bus to W.P. 6 hrs of smoke and garbage. Could hardly stand it. Man alive was I ever sick when I got here. Anyway they came and got me and took me to mission home and fed me and that’s where I’ve been since. I hope to leave this weekend. Have an app. with Dr. for Thurs. Today is the 25^th. Hey!

Talk[ed] to Mrs. Bellue this afternoon and found out real clop (?) on M. Smith! She has really taken us for a ride. She is out to lunch. Forget her it, whatever it was contacted referrals. Saw contacts Dills, Carpers, (illegible) fireside. Went to fireside this evening.

Visited some referrals, a real good one this morning, Mrs. Ward. Cousin is on a mission here. Seems real good. Saw the bishop and he invited us to go to Cyprus Gardens Monday. Sure a great man. Went down to the church and E. Riley park[ed] on some man’s lawn and he called the police. No ticket though. Thank heavens. Amen.

Visited some referrals and contact saw M. Smith. Told her so long, Lady. Saw Sis. Dickerson. She ask[ed] us to go see her and husband so we did. He is a member. Good man.

Church all day, regular mtgs. Work[ed] with E. Jolley. Saw Jim Carpers. He is out to lunch right now. Ate at the Wynns. Had a couple mtgs crash out.

D. Day. Regular garbage, wash, clean, etc. Went to Opps and jumped on the tramp. Almost broke my neck. Got a sore shined nose. Washed car and then we went and played golf with Joe Opp. Laura fix[ed] lunch. She still hasn’t gone back to school. Visited Dills, Valdez, Hancock wasn’t home. Set up a mtg. with Mrs. Gordon. Saw and set app with Mrs. Ward also the Williams. Seem like real good people. Gave Kings the 2^nd (members). That’s about it for another busy day.

Gave Harpe the 3^rd. He is really having a wife problem. Also family visited members most of the day. Also referrals. Went to M.I.A.

Gave Sis. Dickerson the 3^rd. Really good. Gave Dills the 2^nd. They also are tremendous. Show[ed] Ward the film. Made app. for 1^st tomorrow. Great life.

Check[ed] new move-ins. Contacted members. Tried to give Ward the 1^st but didn’t have a chaperon so we never [went]. Went to fireside. Bro and Sis Dickerson were both there. Good fireside.

Gave Dickerson[s] the 4^th. She is really a good lady. Will be baptized this Sat. Done some tracting for a couple hours. Met with good young lady. Made app. Her name is Valencia. Went over to the Kings and gave them the 3^rd. Visited out contacts.

Visited our contacts this morning. Then we tracted all afternoon. Made some good app. (2) Ha! Ha! Gave Valencia and her grandma the 1^st. Real terrific gal. Went to the dance for a few minutes.

Church duties. Sis. Dickerson, Ward was there. JoAnn spoke in Sacrament. Gave a real good tremendous talk. Also she was sustained as Sunday Sec. Went over to Opps for dinner. Came home. Going to Cyprus Gardens tomorrow. Wow.

D. Day. Regular. Did junk. Played golf and goofed off most of the day. Woops. We went to Cyprus Gardens. I’m out of it. Bishop Rick took us over there. It was just fabulous. Had a fireside this evening. Pres. Winder, Shumway, and Jensen were there. Boy what a great one. Real inspirational. The two sec Cs. Stayed at our apt. all night. Wow what a night. Wow what a day. Pres. Winder told us we were getting moved and that I was getting a greenie companion. What a shock. Elder Riley was made S. E. C.

Conference today (missionary type). Real great and inspirational. Gave Sister Dickerson the 5^th. She is a great lady. She’ll be baptized Sat. Elder Jolley came over this evening and is gong to work with me the rest of the week.

She is a great cool. I baptized her and had to say the prayer over, then she wasn’t completely under. Finally the third time I got her completely baptized. How embarrassing. Oh well, she really got baptized.

Church all day today. Callijia crashed. Went to Opps for dinner then later we went to Wynns and ate. What a time.

Talk[ed] with a man this morning from the Boy’s Club. We cannot speak there because they pay no attention to that. Going to make some posters. Parent app. for a while this afternoon and then it started pouring rain and we got soaked! Good and plenty. Had a fireside at Wynn’s. I conducted. Bro. (illegible) spoke and Bennie Vanacre play[ed] the guitar – real good. Not (illegible).

It rained and rained today until we couldn’t even go out. What a mess. So we telephone tracted and all. Pick up some good people. Gave Yates the 1^st. Then we went to a baptismal service. Then we went over to Wynns and ate. They are really great people. Sis. Symm is making all the big plans, Linda also. Got a real wonderful letter from Ma Oates today and some $. She is sure great. My word, I was shocked to death, Jeanette called this evening. Got to talk to all the family.

Went to Church all day. Bishop’s mtg at 10:00. Priesthood at 11:30. I talked to Patriarch Bell after opening exercises for about an hr. He explain[ed] many things to me. Such an inspire[d] man. Boy what an experience. Then Sunday school at 1:00 and sacr mtg at 2:30. Really a wonderful Easter Service. Then we went over to Opps and ate. The house was empty without Sis Opp. She has gone to conference in S.L. Laura and I had a real good talk. Wow what a talker. Well so long next page.

I came home and called home. Ken and Martha were there, also Jeanette. Talk[ed] to Sue and Sandy, Dad and Mom. Recorded it on the tape. Boy I sound funny. Well good night.

D Day, same old garbage. Played basketball at noon with all the elders, Riley, Toone, Anderson, Waite, Sudberry, Briggs. The T.E.s came later but never played. Went with Elder Sudzy, and Briggs, and played golf. Wow what a horrible game. Went to Kings for dinner. Gave the Vanacres the 4^th. Great people.

Visited Tucker, Ward, Stephens, this morning. Tracted for a while. Gave some old ladies the 1^st. What a (illegible). Not really I guess. Gave Ward the 3^rd. Great. No W of W problem. Gave Olmsteads, Wynns neighbor, the 1^st. Patty real interested, mother wouldn’t let us come back. Sure would like to teach Patty. Have to make ourselves worthy. Really has been a good day. One of the biggest good off days of my whole mission. We accomplished absolutely nothing. Whoops, we [gave] Vanacres the 5^th. That’s all through. They don’t know it but they are going to be baptized Sat. We went over to Sis Tucker’s and goofed off. JoAnn is now living with her so that was even worse. Oh well. Goof offs we are. It’s April Fool’s Day and we are fools.

E. Burt had a terrific problem. He tried to run off. Wow, what a bad time he gave me. Anyway, I got the T.E.s up here and we got it all straighten[ed] out. Gave Sister Ward the 4^th. Gave Valencia the 2^nd. Both real good. Looked up some referral[s]. Stop[ped] by JoAnn and ask[ed] her to fellowship Valencia. So long. Good night. I’m off to bed.

Parent approach this morning and some in the afternoon. Gave Ward the 4^th. Todd the 1^st. Went to Vanacre to give them the 6^th but we (Elder Hemmert came up to work with us) then more or less a lecture and just really talk[ed] over their problems about not believing in God etc. She, Marie, now has a foundation.

Gave a Mrs. Stephenson the 1^st. She is sort of slow but really wants to know the truth. Saw Sister Dickerson, she gave some real good pie, brownies, and apple turnover. Gave Maureen, Valencia the 3^rd. Went a round or two with the grandmother. But Maureen will be baptized. Went to general priesthood mtg. this evening.

Church all day. Bro Dickerson was there and brought Sis Dickerson. She bore her testimony. Real great. I also stood on my feet and expressed my thanks. Went to Opps afterwards. Boy Laura can really cook. Sis Opp is in S.L. somewhere.

D Day garbage. Went to Wynns for Lunch. Met Elders Anderson and Waite. Went to show. Tom Jones. That’s the last time I am going to a show. Saw Sis Dickerson, Ward, for D.C. Gave Valencia the 4^th. Her grandma gives her a lot of (illegible). She is good though. She was at church yesterday.

Had Development Mtg this morning. Gave Ward the 6^th. She’ll be baptized Sat. Whoops. Fri. Went to M.I.A. Done very little. Ate at Sis Tuckers tonight. Meat loaf and all the garbage. Real good. Sis Tucker is a scream. Also JoAnn they are now living together.

Well we moved this morning bright and early. Visited some people. Parent approach most the afternoon. Contacted Bro Finn. Made new app. I had the privilege of baptizing Sharron Ward this evening. She is real sweet. What a wonderful honor to teach her and be able to baptize her through the Spirit of the Lord. Really great. Good night.

Went to White’s this morning and watch[ed] conference. Real inspiring. Went to Church. Before that E. Burt and I went the rounds and got a few things straight again. Should last a couple days before we start again. Visited several new contacts and really picked up some good ones.

Well, regular D-ed garbage. But we went to the beach and played football with all the Elders. Riley, Toone, Hemmert, Poulsen, Briggs, Sudberry, Waite, Anderson, and Burt. Also the Elders from (illegible). Me, Murry, and (illegible). Anyway it was fun. Elder Toone got picked up twice today. The one time he got just a warning. Wow was he ever shock[ed]. Visited some new people. Hollis crashed. Oh well, another day.

Spent the morning having car inspected, early that is. Had a 2^nd disc with Stephenson that crashed. So we went parent approaching. Went and saw Mrs. Roe and got her going on her divorce and all so we can baptize her. Got new move-ins. Haar crashed. Hollis set up mtg and crashed. Gave Curry the 1^st. Seem good. Slow but good.

Parent app this morning. Saw Roe again. Also Bro. Finn. Look[ed] up new move-ins. Telephone tracted. Perkins crashed. Had income tax problem and this was the deadline. Elders Evans and Lee work[ed] with us. I work with E. Lee. Certainly a super fine missionary.

Tracted again this morning. Cubbis and Thornhill crashed. Visited some members and tracted a little more. Elders Lee and Evans, came and work[ed] with us again. I work[ed] with E. Evans. We all went tracting. Really have tired feet this evening. Oh well. So long.

Parent app again this morning. Gave a young couple by the name of Lawrence the 1^st. Seem real good. Visited new referrals. Went and saw Sis. Pijuan this evening and she is coming to conference Sunday.

Well E. Burt and I went the rounds to start off the morning. Started to tract but I wasn’t in tune so quit. Went with the Dickersons and look[ed] at their new trailer and lot. Sure nice. Then we had Cuban sandwiches at their house. Bro Dickerson is so funny. They are really happy. Tucker (Gary) asked us to come back Monday. Hyde crashed. Visited Johnson, Finn, gave Curry the 2^nd. Seems interested but says she is too busy.

Church all day, Stake Conference today. Bro Carr and Cullemore were here from genealogy and welfare. Pres and Sister Winder spoke. Pres Winder also talked with my companion. Looked up some people and then went with Elder Sudberry and Briggs to a holiness Church. That’s it.

D Day, played basketball, went with Elder Riley down town. Same old D Day garbage. Crash a (illegible) on all our app. Elder Burt and I went to rounds again. I really wonder sometimes.
